So, after I got home from work on Tuesday, I checked on my blog post, commented on blogs I follow and the teasers that were posted, and went to bed. I had the most wicked headache I’ve had in a few months. I was sick at my stomach….and I’ll stop there. Just tmi.
Honey called and said he was on the way home; earlier, I’d sent a text telling him I didn’t feel like cooking and asked if he’d pick something up. Okay?
He calls me. I’m assuming it’s his usual call letting me know he’s on the road. Nope. He asks if I’ve taken anything for my head. I reply that I’d just taken two Excedrin (I usually only take one). He pauses then tells me to not come outside, at all, for any reason whatsoever. Headache spike!!! Why? Our front door, at some point in the past, had a screen/storm door and there is still a cylinder there for it. He told me that, coiled around it, at our front door, is a four or five foot snake.
Okay, I’m creeped out but not afraid. I grew up in the country and I can remember being a very young child, maybe four or five years old….and my uncle asking me to hold a new snake for him while he rustled up a feed sack to put it in. Our family lived all around each other and lots of things were considered common property. The barn, my grandparent’s barn, with all the hay in the loft, also had lots of chickens that roosted there. Rats would come and eat the eggs. My uncle, who had a pet king snake for years, would catch king, black, and green snakes and set them loose in the barn for catching rats. So, I would hold them. No biggie. Just a little creepy….
I sent my nephew a text and he right away responded with the question of its color. If it was brown, he said to kill it. I’d already told Honey if it was black or green, to just scare it off. Well, in the process of scaring it off, he saw its color. Brown. OMG! A freaking poisonous copperhead was hanging from my freaking front door!!!!
*shuddershuddershudder* wait, not done *shudder*
here’s the video
Last week, I participated for the first time in the Teaser Tuesday blog event. Hosted by MizB over at Should Be Reading, this is a fun, interactive way to discover new reads, be reminded of old ones, and meet lots of interesting people in the process.
Anyone can join in, all you have to do is:
Grab your current read
Open to a random page
Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants (and anyone reading the post) can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser.
Ready? ‘K, here goes….
Mo fell to his knees beside Dustfinger’s motionless body. He wanted to lie down beside him, to stop breathing, too, stop feeling, but the solders hauled him up and bound his hands.
Inkdeath by Cornelia Funke p. 516
Um, apparently I have authority issues…or issues with rules. See, I posted last week that I was waiting on a book, so I picked an old read. Well, I got the book, but I already did a post about it…so…I went looking for something I haven’t posted about before. Inkdeath is the last of the trilogy by Cornelia Funke. They’re epic reads and Inkdeath does go on for a long time, but it’s worth it, really. Dustfinger!!!!!!
Did you know that she wrote the book, Inkheart, with Brenden Frasier in mind for Mo?
***I have no idea what is going on with this post….it’s moving all over the place, even when I try to fix it. There’s tons of space between paragraphs that aren’t there on my draft. Sorry for the inconvenience!***
I have a thing for giraffes. I found this picture at Hobby Lobby, along with the little statue, two years ago. They used to sit in this tiny little nook on a tiny little table in the town home we rented. Now, they occupy a place in one of our two little hallways.
I also have a thing for globes, old maps, maps of make believe lands, like Middle Earth…found this at Kirkland’s in December of last year. I couldn’t get a very good pic and you can’t see the vase that sits beside/beneath it…I’m fortunate that Honey likes maps and globes, too….
We’re almost never in the living room and we found out, after going under contract, that the fireplace was a coal burning fireplace. We bought one of those heaters that has ‘flames’ and inserted it. It really looks pretty good in the winter, and on rainy days…we still have work to do in here, though….Honey picked out the picture two years ago-it used to be over our sofa…another Hobby Lobby find.
What prompted this particular post. Our kitchen has very limited cabinet space. Today, Honey and his brother, I’ll call him Tat (full sleeves and body tattoos) went to their Nanny’s house (she’s in a nursing home and PawPaw is in Heaven) and picked up this great piece of furniture. I’ve already begun filling it with dishes. It’s darker than it looks, which is great because our table is almost espresso in color…I’m very happy that Honey has an heirloom from his Nanny and Pawpaw….
I thought, since I took a pic of the new hutch, I’d snap a few pics that reflected a little bit of me, the ‘flavors’ I like. This is one bookshelf in my little office. The other one is much fuller but messy because I’m in the process of adding some work stuff, so…
What? Don’t you have a couple stuffed animals somewhere? Many of these actually travel to work with me because I use them with themes and books. Several are gifts from Honey or friends, too…I love the bug-eyed cat that Honey got me one year for St. Patrick’s Day. That rabbit in the back wearing a sweater? Nephew got it for me when he was still in elementary school (he’s 24 now). Sister got me the rabbit with the straw hat…
These two sit beside my desk. I’ve actually slept with the rabbit (I’ve had him a looooong time) back when I lived alone and was going through a lot of stuff. The moose is a gift from a dear friend I don’t get to see anymore…
What my desk looks like right now. Well, my desk come vanity…most of the time, I take the ‘puter to my comfy chair in the opposite corner and play or write there….
This, ladies and gentlemen, ends our tour. Come back next time when we’ve had a chance to complete more of the home projects we have planned. On the list: kitchen remodel, bathroom remodel, painting the half bath, painting all the trim, replacing all the switch covers, adding a rug/carpet to the dining room, and putting more stuff on the walls.
(Okay, I hear Ellie May Clampet saying, “Ya’ll come back now, ya hear?” So, I’ll end with that 🙂 *waving*

I’m gonna do it the same way she did it-if you read through, consider yourself tagged!
Co-Teacher’s son is an avid reader. He’s also a rabid Stephen King fan! It’s interesting and fun to discuss books with him. He also loves the Harry Potter series, as well as The Series of Unfortunate Events. But, according to him, King rules. If you know me at all, you’ll know that I can’t leave that alone x~D I have to argue, pick, compare, and get a rise out of him. His passion makes it way too easy…
It also makes him loyal, which is something I respect. I have read several of King’s books. Off the top of my head: Carrie, Cujo, Thinner, Needful Things, Misery, The Green Mile, Christine, The Eyes of the Dragon, and Night Shift.
I have recently gotten a friend to read Harry Potter, and he’s hooked. So it’s fair that I take Son’s advice and read It. Director said it scared the crap out of her as a teenager…
What King books have your read? Is he your favorite author? If not, who is? And, have you ever read a book that scared the crap out of you or creeped you out so bad you had the willies for days?
***for me, it was John Saul’s Suffer the Children…I quit reading him after that…I was haunted and messed up for days!
>Warning: This post is very personal…and ultimately, deals with faith….
I’ve been at war my whole life. From the time I was a very young child, I would stand against my grandmother on my mom’s behalf, constantly parrying the cruel words, belittling comments, and despicable attitudes.
Then, I would turn and stand against my mom, on my own behalf, for the same things…
Later, as a teen, I fought internal wars…usually with myself. More often than not, I lost…
In my first marriage, I fought against a whole family who hated me simply because a man chose me over his mother….until the constant barrage of words/manipulations/plots became too much…
I fought against the side effects of my childhood, warped perceptions, skewed beliefs, and the conviction that I was a non-person.
Today, I fight for the children in my class. I fight, very carefully, for the fair treatment of my friends in their relationships. I fight for my nephew whose mother seems to have forgotten him. I fight for my marriage, in the form of honest discussions-before the need for yelling arises…
It is not in me to simply accept……easily. I don’t surrender……easily.
I fight with words and silence. I fight with action and inaction. Mostly, I fight with prayer. No surprise, then, that, as far as faith and church go, a particular kind of ‘fighting’ is my calling….
I get weary. I get hit. I fall down….and often, sadly, stay down. This last time, for years. I’ve become less of a warrior and more of a sniper…
My Director/Boss/Friend and I were talking today about her husband. We talked about how she and I are similar and very different in our approaches to life and scary things. She has profound faith. She understands. She accepts…
I have faith. I have a semi-profound understanding. I do NOT accept…..easily. I question my Daddy; I argue with Him; I point out words He’s spoken and, in a child-like manner, stomp my foot in frustration and respectfully demand to know ‘why’ and ‘why not’ and I wait for an answer (I am that strong willed child, also a trait of a firstborn)…
Yesterday, on the way home from work, I did a little warring.
It felt good….
**Info Note: ‘Daddy’ – not a reference to a man, but to God, the only Father I’ve ever known…
